Bad Journey

Drove down to Surry yesterday – wasn’t the best trip. As I approached the M50 a lorry drove past fairly slowly having left a rest area. About 1/3 of the way past the lorry something fairly big and hard hit my windscreen… my lovely new windscreen that has only been on the car 6 months. … Read more

All quiet

Not much exciting happening with the car. It still works, but sometimes seems to do a very quiet backfire when started after sitting for a few days. In preparation for the Saabscene trackday (28th May), it is booked in with WMSS in May for a service, a few more bits of poly in the suspension, … Read more

Tamworth Meet

Went to the Tamworth saab meet, organised by Jason on Saabscene Like last year this was at the Tame Otter pub in Hopwas, which has ample parking and good food. Unlike last year I want straight to the pub so missed the drive from the M42 services which is probably most of the fun… Some … Read more

Update

Below is a lovely pic of a brake caliper with an EBC Redstuff pad attached… I spent many hours with my car, first washing it, then drying, applying a coat of polish, and finally a coat of wax just as it’s getting dark. And when I wake up in the morning…

Damaged disks?

Here is a pic of one of the front disks that came off the car – note what appear to be fine cracks radiating from the centre with tarnished area around them. This might have been part of the vibrating brake problem. The pads that came off – plenty of friction material

Brakes fitted

The new disks and pads have gone on, fitted by Silver Street motors. I now intend to do 500 miles of gentle driving to let them bed in. There is still a lot of friction material left on my DS2500 pads – not sure if they have any value, seems a shame to have had … Read more

New Brakes Arrived

2 big parcels arrived from Elkparts containing front and rear disks and pads. Fitting is still booked for Thursday, but here are some pics before they go on the car.

Brakes ordered

In preparation for the trackday in May I have been looking at replacing my brakes which have been well-cooked in the past. Changing for bigger disks/calipers is expensive and won’t fit behind standard wheels. Since I want to keep the car looking standard this isn’t an option. Following discussion with Elkparts and reading posts on … Read more

New Dump Valve

I fitted my new Forge recirculating dump valve today. I advise fitting when the engine is warm. When cold I couldn’t remove the old valve – the jubilee clips are unnecessary, it really isn;t going anyywhere. When warm after a drive the valve came out with the use of a fair bit of force. Fitting … Read more

Behaving properly

Received a package from Elkparts today. Immediately fitted the replacement APC valve and took the car for a drive on some interesting Worcestershire roads. The car now performs properly with lots of controlled boost 🙂 I also have a Forge recirculating dump valve to fit and a DIN mount for 3 gauges. I have a … Read more
