Service

Saab had its 6-monthly service today at Graham Garage in Malvern. Just basic stuff, oil, filter, brake fluid and general checks.

All is well

Not much been happening with the car. I went out for a drive with a bunch of Supra owners. The twin-turbo variants are quite speedy, but the Saab held its own. They drove more swiftly than I was comfortable with on some parts so I dropped back a bit… Some pics are here The battery … Read more

All fine

Have been driving the car a bit, all seems fine. I am giving it top-up charges after it has sat for a week. These charges take 10+ minutes to hit 14.8v at which the charger drops to 13.6v. Doesn’t look like anything is flattening the battery. Service next month, I will get the garage to … Read more

what now?

I have had some more feedback from other 9000 owners about their charging situation. And it sounds very similar to mine. Hence I will have to continue investigating further ideas as to what the fault may be. The UK Saabs thread with the information is here

Mondeo Voltage

I used my gf’s Mondeo for a comparison test, again using the cigarette lighter for a voltage measurement. After starting, voltage hit 14.55 volts, and by the end of a 20 min run had settled to 14.2V running and 14.15V at idle. Restarting was at 14.0V, but then climbed back to 14.3V, and then subsided … Read more

Voltage update

Just took the car for a drive using a cable from the cigarrette lighter attached to a multimeter to read voltage. The battery voltage when the car had been left overnight was 12.3V. I attached it to the charger which took a few mins to bring it up to 15v before it dropped to the … Read more

Not charging enough?

The car spent has now spent over a week with the battery in and it works fine. Over the 6 days when it was connected and not driven the voltage dropped was 12.7 to 12.4 volts. It started perfectly, and terminal voltage was 14.3V at idle immediately after starting. The car had a number of … Read more

Can’t find anything wrong…

Hello I did a bit more research on modes of battery failure and none of them looked that likely. I managed to recharge the battery this time, and it seemed to charge to the proper voltage and stay there. I then started doing some tests connecting it to the car. The first couple of time … Read more

Not again

I last drove the car at the weekend. Long fast drive (140 miles) on Saturday, some more local stuff (30 miles) on Sunday. I come to the car today (Friday), 120 hours after I parked it, and the remote doesn’t work. Battery voltage – 0.05 volts. This is very close to what happened at the … Read more

Nothing to report…

The car has done nothing of interest, so there is little to post. It is only really being used at the weekend for longer drives and doing nothing during the week. This is a good was of saving money on Shell V-Power. The same niggles are there – occasionally the rear right brake squeaks while … Read more
